Headwaters Art Center: Art Lab encourages kids to explore their creativity

Stamford, NY –  Art Lab is an afterschool art program that prioritizes process over
product and encourages kids 12+ to explore, experiment and develop their creative
interests. Starting October 1, 2026, Art Lab will meet afterschool between 3–4:30p
every Thursday at Headwaters Arts Center. New activities will be offered each week
that encourage both independent and guided creative exploration. This is a free, drop-
in workshop that only requires a consent form to register. Links to this form and further

According to a recent report from the National Endowment for the Arts, “arts education
is closely linked with positive academic outcomes and social and emotional
development” (https://www.arts.gov/stories/blog/2025/educating-ourselves-about-
childhood-arts-experiences-and-why-they-matter). In recognition of the important role
arts education plays in children’s enrichment, Art Lab is designed to supplement the
art instruction that students receive in school, encouraging children to experiment with
materials and techniques, and find their unique creative voice.
Art Lab encourages self expression, providing gentle guidance as students learn new
skills. Materials and activities are largely guided by students’ interests, although Art
Lab will regularly feature guest artists who teach specialized skills or techniques. A
parent/guardian must complete the Parent/Guardian Consent Form. This form can be
