Led by local professional actor and comedian Marisa Caruso, the Kids’ Theater Workshop is designed for children in the community (ages 8–16) to explore live performance skills including voice, movement, improv, and script interpretation.

In eight weeks, students will learn a series of vocal and physical warm-ups and theater games, practice a variety of acting and writing exercises, and perform short scenes for their families and peers. All materials are provided and registration is required to participate.

Marisa Caruso is an interdisciplinary theater maker whose collaborations span a wide range of theater styles from classic works to comedy to abstract performance. As a performer, producer, manager, director, teacher or writer, a passion for original storytelling drives her work.

Marisa has served as the managing director of the avant-garde theater company, Torn Space Theater since 2016 producing reimagined classics and large-scale site-specific works designed for an industrial complex of grain silos in Buffalo, NY. While managing Torn Space, Marisa has also worked with award-winning companies in residence, including 600 HIGHWAYMEN and Temporary Distortion.

Now based in the Catskills region, Marisa continues to provide administrative support to Torn Space while branching out into the development of original works and new project collaborations, notably with companies The Party Theater, lbs/sq” performance, the Prattsville Art Center and Residency, and Neon Caviar. Working across the Catskill region, she has developed educational and artistic programming for the mountaintop community, building connections through live performance opportunities for artists and audiences alike.

This workshop is being offered at no cost to participants thanks to a generous grant from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation. All programs offered by the Roxbury Arts Group are supported by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the NYS Legislature, the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation, The Community Foundation for South Central New York, the Tianaderrah Foundation, The Delaware National Bank of Delhi, and individual supporters.
