Weekend Backpack Program – Main Street Community Center
The Main Street Community Center’s Weekend Backpack Program provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to children in the Windham-Ashland-Jewett School District to help supplement meals on weekends and during school breaks.
We believe that every child deserves access to enough food, and that asking for a little extra support should never be something a family feels embarrassed about. This program is here for any WAJ family who could benefit from it.

There are no eligibility requirements to participate. You do not need to provide financial information, proof of income, or an explanation of your family’s circumstances.
Registered children receive a discreet backpack of food each week to take home.
Each backpack contains, at minimum:
- 2 breakfast servings
- 3 easy-to-prepare entrees
- 2 snacks
Backpacks are available for pickup at the Main Street Community Center each week. If transportation to the Center is difficult, delivery can be arranged.
