Choreographer Gloria McLean brings CONVERGENCE: Two Evenings of Dance to Leo
Koenig Inc. for two performances on July 10 and 11 at 7:30 PM. McLean’s work is known for
immediate, multidimensional performance that blends dance with live music, visual art, media,
and text. She has been noted for her “intelligent, witty, and sensuous choreographic voice”
(Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times). McLean adds, “The beauty of dance is it puts us in
the present, into a fresh awareness.” This marks the first performance event at Leo Koenig Inc.!
The program includes new and revived works. Highlights include DaVinci Redux, a group
piece drawing on Leonardo da Vinci’s notes on the body, with musician/actor Marshall Coid as
narrator; Part 2 of Skin, Flesh and Bone, a solo for dancer Fina; and a guest performance by
Austrian dancer/choreographer Bert Gstettner of TanzHotel Vienna. McLean also performs her
solo Bashulli Poco with music by Ushio Torikai. The evening closes with an ensemble work
created in recognition of America’s 250th year, invoking the Haudenosaunee image of the “Great
Tree of Peace.”
CONVERGENCE brings together artists who have collaborated with McLean’s LIFEDANCE
projects in performance and workshop settings in New York City, upstate New York, across the
U.S., and internationally—uniting movement, music, video, and sculpture in a shared live
experience.
