Jane St. and Sketchbook Gallery Exhibitions SurReal &

Would it be enough  (More Than Enough)

Just off Partition Street and Main Street in Saugerties, where restaurants and live music draw steady crowds, two neighboring galleries continue to build a quiet reputation for thoughtful, consistent programming. Under the direction of Jennifer Hicks, Jane St. Gallery and Sketchbook Gallery offer distinct but complementary experiences that reflect a strong curatorial voice and a deep respect for both artists and audience.

At Jane St. Gallery, the current group exhibition “SurREAL” brings together a wide range of artists exploring the shifting boundary between reality and imagination. The work invites viewers into a space where familiar forms feel slightly altered and meaning stays just out of reach. According to gallery manager Kathryn O’Mara, the strength of the show comes from the diversity of interpretation, with each artist responding differently to a shared conceptual language. The result is a layered and engaging exhibition that rewards close looking.

Next door at Sketchbook Gallery, Hudson Valley artist Ted Dixon presents “Would it be enough,” a solo exhibition of abstract paintings that reflect on memory, loss, and personal growth. Dixon’s work considers how people measure fulfillment and how experiences shape emotional understanding over time. The paintings move between past and present, offering moments of quiet reflection alongside more unsettled, searching compositions.

Together, the two galleries demonstrate Hicks’ ability to balance group and solo exhibitions while maintaining a cohesive identity. Her background as an artist and longtime dancer is evident in the way Jane St. Gallery extends beyond traditional display, with a back space designed for performance, including upcoming live music events featuring a multi-instrument ensemble. Both spaces feel intentional and alive, with exhibitions that not only stand on their own but also speak to each other across the threshold.

With both shows running through mid June, visitors have a limited window to experience this pairing. It is well worth the short walk from the center of town.
