July 26, 2 – 4 p.m.

Multidisciplinary artist Beth Caspar is presenting an exhibition of new work titled “Balancing Act: Light,
Plane, Shadow,” which opens at ArtUp gallery, 746 Main St., Binnekill Square, Margaretville, NY, 12455,
on Friday July 3 and runs through Sunday July 26. A reception will take place on Friday July 10 from 4 to
6 p.m.; an artist’s talk is scheduled for Sunday July 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. The gallery is open to the public
Friday through Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.
Ms. Caspar, whose work for the past 30 years has focused on shape, pattern, and color derived from,
among other things, chance and more recently the alphabet, in “Balancing Act” presents constructions,
large-scale work on paper, and paintings on panel that explore light, planes, and shadows. “In addition
to the shadow shapes that are depicted in graphite on Kraft paper or cut out of aluminum flashing, I also
like that the constructions seem a bit precarious–topsy-turvy as one group of them is titled–and the
black-and-white charcoal drawings address that quality. In all the work, I’ve tried to create a buoyant,
playful interaction of color, shape, and form.”
Beth Caspar holds a BFA in printmaking from the University of Florida. She exhibits nationally and
internationally and has work in the collections of MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum, the Columbus (Georgia)
Museum of Art, the D’Arcy Thompson Museum in Dundee Scotland and the New York Public Library. She
divides her time between the Catskills, where she has her studio, and New York City.
