Margaretville became a little sweeter Thursday with the opening of Jenny’s Candy Shop, the newest addition to the village’s growing collection of locally owned businesses.
Jenny and Soren Rhodes said opening a candy shop had been something they dreamed about for several years before finally deciding, about three months ago, to make it happen. Jenny also brings small-business experience as co-owner, with her wife, of the Roxbury Bottle Shop.
The new shop offers an impressive assortment of sweets from around the world, including Swedish, German, British, Mexican, Japanese and Chinese candies, along with Finnish licorice. Customers can also explore bulk and packaged chocolates, dried fruits, nut mixes and plenty of nostalgic old-fashioned favorites.
Jenny summed up the spirit behind the colorful new venture simply: “Hopefully it’ll make people happy.”
