Color didn’t sit still that day
it wrapped around me
pressed into my skin like heat.
Gold wasn’t something I wore,
it moved with me,
caught the sun
and refused to give it back.
I leaned into the walls
like they were holding secrets,
curves of painted silence
echoing something louder inside me.
Somewhere between stillness
and laughter
between a stare and a tease
I forgot who was watching.
I wasn’t posing.
I was slipping in and out
of versions of myself
that only exist
when the light hits just right.
Sweet like sugar on my tongue,
sharp like the way I looked back
playful at him but never soft enough to disappear.
Even the rough places held me
brick, rubber, edges of the day
and I carried the same glow through all of it with my blue star.
heat. color. skin.
no rules in this light
I lean, I break, I laugh
I don’t hold still long enough
to be understood
just long enough
to be felt
after Huey the duck held us both
rubber, latex, color pressed between us
like something alive
we stepped into it
not to escape
but to feel louder
this was ours
art as shelter
art as heat
art as the thing that held us together
when everything else felt too far away
