Pine Hill Community Center: Exhibition: “Not Playing with a Full Deck”

Not Playing With a Full Deck Project Description: In the Fall of 2025, The Catskilled Crafters voted on Not Playing With a Full Deck as their project for 2026. The “rules of the game” stipulated: Doesn’t have to be playable, can be “made up”, can be a riff on an existing game, or simply a piece of visual art. Each participant was invited to create their piece out of any material they chose. The scope of interpretation is creative and vast. Many will make you smile! A few are not “all fun and games” and will make you think. Some great ideas that you will see: A wacky fortune teller named “Miss Fortune”, a karmic “Wheel of Life”, a fabric Tarot deck, “Pill Head” who receives pills thrown into her mouth, a “Democracy Jenga”, a spinning game called “Chances Are”, hand painted Mexican lottery cards, a beautiful matching game of found objects, and a “House of Cards” made of cut up credit cards. The Catskilled Crafters are a group of artists located in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. Every year, since 2016, they have developed a community project to keep hands busy during the long winter months in this region. Their name was coined in 2017 by Wendy Brackman, an artist and quilter based in Arkville NY. They meet monthly from January through May at The Pine Hill Community Center in Pine Hill, NY, where they share ideas and techniques.
